The Calm Wear brief is underwear with the pad built in. You wear it, wash it, and wear it again.

It looks like a normal high-waist brief — black, soft bamboo, nothing medical about it. Inside there are four thin layers that catch a leak and keep it away from your clothes.

It isn’t a replacement for a pad or a cup on a heavy day. It’s for the ordinary ones: the sneeze, the laugh, the gym class, and the days you’d rather not wear a liner at all.

Sizes S to XL, from R498. Here is what it does, what it doesn’t, and what it’s worth over a year.

A brief you reach for without thinking

This is comfort you don’t have to plan around. It’s the pair you pull on with jeans, with a dress, with gym leggings — and then simply forget about. The fabric is cool and quiet against the skin, the waistband stays put, and the shape is the same one you already know and trust.

  • 92% bamboo, 8% spandex — soft, breathable, and gently stretchy, so it moves with you and never digs in.
  • High waist, full coverage — flattering, secure, and completely ordinary to look at.
  • Four featherlight layers inside — the quiet little secret doing all the work.
  • Nothing to see, nothing to hear — no pad outline, no rustle, no bulk under your favourite clothes.

Inside: four quiet layers doing the work

There is no pad in this brief. There are four very thin layers, each with one job, working together so smoothly that you never feel them:

  1. Stay-dry lining — soft fabric that lets moisture pass straight through to the core, so the surface against your skin stays beautifully dry.
  2. Absorbent core — drinks a leak in seconds. A sneeze, a laugh, a jump, a cough, all quietly handled.
  3. Leak-proof barrier — a thin, silent layer that keeps everything where it belongs.
  4. Bamboo body — 92% bamboo with a wide flat waistband that holds you close all day long.

Tested, filmed, and generous with the numbers

The manufacturer filmed their own tests and published them in full — we love that kind of honesty, so here are the results:

  • 12ml — beautifully dry to the touch.
  • 22ml — locked in, surface still dry and comfortable.
  • 40ml — damp inside, still perfectly sealed. Nothing reaches your clothes.
  • 150ml stress test — nearly four times its own limit, poured across the pad with a white tissue beneath and pressed firmly with both hands. The tissue stayed bone dry.

For perspective: most everyday leaks — the sneeze, the giggle, the jumping jack — are a mere 1 to 5ml. This brief was built with room to spare.

Made for your everyday — and honest about the edges

Where it shines: everyday leaks from a sneeze, a laugh, a cough or a gym class. Moderate period days. Long days out, travel, weddings, school runs, and every laugh you have been holding in. It is freedom for the ordinary moments, and it feels wonderful.

Where it isn’t the right fit: heavy days and nights. This is a light, everyday brief rather than heavy protection, and if you soak through heavy protection most days, a conversation with your doctor will serve you far better than any product page. We would rather send you lovingly in the right direction than have you disappointed later.

The lovely maths: stop renting your comfort every month

A pad costs a few rand and is gone by lunchtime. Buy them month after month, year after year, and there is nothing to show for it. Buy four beautiful briefs once, and you have four beautiful briefs — waiting for you every morning, no shopping trip required.

  Disposables Calm Wear 4-pack
What you buy 3 pads a day, every day 4 briefs, washed and worn again
Cost per month R450 R1,196 once, then only a wash
Cost per year R5,400 — every single year R1,196 in your first year
After 12 months R5,400 spent, nothing kept R4,204 still in your pocket

The pack happily pays for itself in about 11 weeks of the pads you are no longer buying. After that it is simply money back in your pocket — roughly R5,400 a year, every year, for something that already lives in your washing machine. Add a little less waste on the planet and it becomes a rather beautiful purchase.

Being fair about the figures: this assumes 3 pads a day at R5 each across 30 days, and it leaves out the hot water and detergent — a 30°C wash costs cents, but it isn’t nothing. Your own habits and local prices will move the numbers around. The lovely shape of the comparison stays exactly the same.

Choose your lovely little bundle

One brief is a gentle introduction. Three is a happy start — buy two and receive a third free. Four is the sweet spot: one in the wash, one on, and spares for the days that go sideways.

Calm Wear pack options: 1 pair R498, 3 pairs R996, 4 pairs R1,196

Sizing made simple

Measure your waist just below the belly button, where a belt naturally sits. The ranges don’t overlap, so one quick measurement lands you on exactly the right size — and a snug band seals beautifully, all day long.

Calm Wear size chart: S 68-77cm, M 78-92cm, L 93-100cm, XL 101-108cm

Underwear is a hygiene product, so returns and exchanges aren’t possible once your order has arrived — the same standard every underwear retailer follows. So take the two minutes with a tape measure first, and if you are ever unsure, write to us and we will happily help you choose. And if your parcel ever arrives faulty or incorrect, we replace it and cover the shipping both ways.

Washing is genuinely not a project

Treat it exactly like your everyday underwear. Machine wash cold or at 30°C, skip the fabric softener (it coats the lovely absorbent core), and line dry in the sun. That’s the whole ritual.

Checked by hand, approved with care

Alchemiss doesn’t list a product we haven’t held in our own hands. Before the Calm Wear brief went live we went through the stock ourselves — the stitching, the sealed barrier layer, the waistband’s gentle grip, the size grading against the chart above — and we approved it with real pleasure. If it hadn’t delighted us, it wouldn’t be on this shelf.

What we won’t do is invent happy reviews to make the page look busier than it is. There are no reviews on this product yet because it is brand new to the shop. As people buy it and share their thoughts, we will publish their words here — the glowing and the honest — so you can decide with your eyes wide open.
